Why We Started LARC

If you’ve ever lived in a small town, you know how special it can be. You know the people, you recognize the cars, and there’s a sense of community that’s hard to find anywhere else.

But you also know what can be missing.

In Lemmon, especially during the long winter months, there aren’t always a lot of options for kids and families to get out, stay active, and connect with others. It’s easy for people—especially youth—to end up staying home, getting bored, and feeling disconnected.

That’s where the idea for LARC started

Lemmon Activities Recreation and Community (LARC) was created out of a simple question:

What if we had more opportunities for people to come together?

Not something complicated. Not something exclusive. Just a place and a reason to show up.

A place where kids can be kids.Where families can spend time together. Where people feel welcome, even if they don’t know anyone when they walk in.

We didn’t start LARC with a big building or a fully built-out plan. We started it because there’s a real need in this community for consistent, accessible activities—especially ones that don’t cost a lot or require a big commitment.

Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference.

A game night.

A shared space.

A simple event where people can laugh, talk, and just be around others.

Those moments matter more than we think.

LARC exists to create those opportunities. To build something that grows over time—something that brings people together, supports our youth, and strengthens our community in a real and lasting way.

We’re starting small, but we’re starting with intention.

And if there’s one thing we know for sure, it’s this:

A stronger community doesn’t happen all at once—it’s built one event, one connection, and one moment at a time.

We’re excited to see where this goes, and we’re even more excited to build it together.
